Press Release
Cross-over has begun for the Virginia General Assembly. At the end of the regular House Session calendar, Delegate Paul Nichols (51st District, Virginia House of Delegates) had three bills cross over to the Senate for further consideration. Several bills of specific importance to Prince William, including his bill, HB 135 to ban HOT lane designation on I-95 and I-395 from Fredericksburg to the Potomac River and HB 90, which would require public contractors to verify the legal status of their employees with the federal E-Verify system in an attempt to prevent illegal immigrants from working for public money, were left in their respective committees.
His bills that were carried over were all done so with virtual unanimous approval from the House. Delegate Nichols presented his bill, HB 1302, to the Senate Committee on Transportation on Thursday where it was referred to the Senate Commerce Committee. HB 1302 makes it legal to move a vehicle that has been in an accident off of the highway and onto a nearby onramp or to a parking area before a police report has been filed. HB 1455, Nichols’ bill to reform the provisional ballot process, will be heard in the Senate Sub-Committee on Elections next Wednesday.
Delegate Nichols and Senator Barker will be holding a town hall meeting on Saturday February 23 at 1:00 PM in the Woodbridge Middle School Auditorium. The meeting will be a chance for constituents to hear news about the Assembly session so far and ask their representatives questions or make suggestions. Delegate Nichols will present the results of his recent constituent survey.
